From ultra light and barely there, to the thickest, fluffiest and warmest goose down comforters available anywhere, we have a down comforter that is just right for you.
First, a word about Fill Power and choosing the warmth level of your Down
Comforter.
"Fill power" is how we can quantify or describe the quality of different grades of goose down. For example: 750 fill is composed of larger down clusters then 650 fill, and will fill more space (750 cubic inches, vs. 650 cubic inches) with the same amount of weight. This means, for example, that a
44oz 750 Queen Size Autumn comforter will be fluffier and warmer than a 44oz
650 Queen Size Autumn comforter.
You can use fill power to help "fine tune" the warmth of
your comforter. For instance, if you are an average sleeper and your room temperature
is 65° - 75° you might choose a Summer or Autumn comforter. We'll use
a Queen Size down comforter for this example. Depending on the fill power you
choose, you will get:
- Summer 650 28oz fill - the coolest of these choices.
- Summer 750 28oz fill - fluffier and warmer, compared to
the 650 fill.
- Summer 800 28oz fill - fluffier and warmer, compared to the Summer 750 fill. The Summer 800 might also be called an "Autumn Light".
- Autumn 650 44oz fill - heavier, fluffier and
warmer than the Summer 800.
- Autumn 750 44oz fill - Fluffier and warmer, compared to the Autumn 650.
- Autumn 800 44oz fill - The fluffiest and warmest of these
choices.
Our Down Comforter Warmth Levels
Ultra Light: Available in Batiste and Eiderdown. For the warmest sleepers
in warm bedrooms.
Tropical: A slightly lighter version of the Summer, for warm sleepers in warm
bedrooms.
Summer: The Summer down comforter is designed for use in the South (with air-conditioned bedrooms) and for those who live elsewhere but keep a comfortably warm bedroom. Imagine a cool Summer night and a down comforter that is so light it feels “barely there” except for the gentle warmth it provides. That is our Summer down comforter! (hint – our Batiste down comforter excels in this warmth/application).
Autumn: Our year-around or “all-seasons comforter”, not too hot, not too cold for the average person in a range of climates. This comforter is for those who want a fluffy and warm down comforter; without too much of a good thing. (hint – select the 650 fill for a little less warmth, the 750 or 800 fill for a little more warmth. Select the Summer 800 for an "Autumn Light".).
Winter: The Winter down comforter offers a luxurious loft and dependable warmth for those who prefer little or no bedroom heat (around 60 degrees). A favorite where Winter is long and warmth is a necessity, not a luxury.
Deep Winter: Our fluffiest and warmest goose down comforter. Designed for those who want the ultimate in lightweight warmth in the coldest of climates. This comforter, like the European duvets of yesteryear (when fire was state-of-the-art for heating and the cows slept downstairs), is very thick and fluffy, yet it seems to float around you, cuddling you in warmth, not weight. (hint – we love the Lyocell for this warmth - recommended for bedrooms that are kept around 50 degrees or colder)
We can add more down to your comforter, but we cannot remove it. So if you are concerned about over heating, a good rule of thumb is to select a weight that is one weight lighter than you think will keep you comfortable. If, within 1 year of your purchase, you decide that you would like more down added, we only charge for the actual cost of the down and return shipping.
