Linen Care : St. Geneve recommends the following care procedures for their Pure Linen Duvet
Covers and Bed Linens:
These recommendations are for St. Geneve linen products only. For other manufacturers,
please refer to the items care label.
- Launder whites, colors and prints separately.
- Never use bleach, or detergents with optical brightening agents.
- White linen may be washed Hot. Colored linens should be washed at medium
tempuratures.
- Spin to extract excess water and stretch damp articles to natural size
and shape before ironing.
- Hot iron while still damp, on the wrong side
- Avoid tumble drying, it's better to hang it to dry on a shower curtain
rod where it will dry quickly.
When storing fine bed linens, wrap in acid-free tissue paper or old sheets.
Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area. Do not store in plastic bags, cedar
chests or cardboard boxes and do not wrap in regular tissue paper. For prolonged
storage, shift linens occasionally to change folded areas.
Silk Care: St. Geneve recommends the following care procedures
for their Silk
Duvet Covers and Bed Linens:
Silk is amazingly strong and light (which is why they make parachutes and printer ribbons out of it). However, it does need particular care to maintain its beauty and strength.
Silk is made of protein and is sensitive to harsh cleaners. It is best washed in a pure, gentle soap. If you wouldn't use a soap on your skin, don't use it on your silk.
Wash with gentle cycle, using medium temperature (not Hot or Cold), and maximum water level. Wash and rinse at the same temperature.
Dry with medium temperature and gentle cycle. Do not wring. Remove before completely dry and let air do the rest. For small items such as pillows cases it is wise to turn them inside out and use a large lingerie bag. If you wish to press, iron inside out with medium temperature.
Never use any of the following on your silk:
- Bleach, brighteners or any detergent that contains bleach.
- Inexpensive laundry
detergents (they often contain some kind of bleach).
- Alkaline detergents, presoak products and fabric softeners.
Enzyme detergents (these products eat protein).
- Avoid any specialty soap, unless it has been specifically formulated for
silk.
- Please avoid soaps promoted by Multi Level Marketers.
- Keep your silk away from Perfumes, Hairspray and Deodorants. Most of these
are alcohol based, which can dissolve silk.
- Nail polish remover is very bad
for silk.
- Do not allow silk to become heavily soiled. Silk can be weakened by perspiration
and perspiration stains are almost impossible to remove.
- Keep your silk out of direct sunlight.
- Just like people, silk can get sunburned.
- These instructions are for St. Geneve Silk items and may not be appropriate
for other manufacturer's items.
