Our down proof fabrics start with the finest Egyptian cotton and decades of expertise in the weaving of down proof fabric. The end result is a superior quality down proof fabric that is extremely durable yet very lightweight: 3oz per square yard for the Sateen and 3.4oz per square yard for the Jacquard.

The Traditional Luxury down comforter is available in either a plain white Cotton Sateen or a white on white striped Jacquard Damask (California King & German Twin Size available in plain white sateen only). Both offer a 300 thread count.

A note about fill power: Fill power indicates the size of the individual down clusters and the overall quality of the goose down, ie; 1 ounce of 650 fill will fill 650 cubic inches of space, 1 ounce of 750 fill will fill 750 cubic inches of space, and so on.

So, ounce for ounce, a higher fill power will result in a slightly warmer and fluffier comforter because the down clusters are relatively larger and fluffier. Higher fill powers also indicate a better quality goose down, with less "fiber" (broken down clusters and perhaps a trace of feather). Higher fill powers also tend to be more durable, retaining their fluffiness and insulating ability compared to lower quality fill powers.

You can use fill power to help "fine tune" the warmth of your comforter. For instance, the Summer & Autumn down comforters are our "Year Around" warmths for most people in relatively mild climates. The Summer would be a good choice for the average sleeper with moderate bedroom temperatures of about 60° to 70°, the Autumn would be a good choice for the average sleeper with cooler bedroom temperatures of about 55° to 65°. Within the same "warmth level", the higher the fill power, the warmer and fluffier your comforter will be. For example:

  • Summer 650 - The coolest of these choices.
  • Summer 750 - Same amount of down, but slightly fluffier and warmer compared to the Summer 650 fill.
  • Summer 800 - Same amount of down, but slightly fluffier and warmer compared to the Summer 750 fill. The Summer 800 might also be called an "Autumn Light".
  • Autumn 650 - More goose down compared to the Summer weight, slightly fluffier and warmer compared to the Summer 800.
  • Autumn 750 - Same amount of down as the Autumn 650, slightly fluffier and warmer compared to the Autumn 650.
  • Autumn 800 - The fluffiest and warmest of these choices. The Autumn 800 might also be called a "Winter Light".

Warmth Level Descriptions:

Ultra Light: For average to warm sleepers in the warmest climates.

Tropical: A slightly lighter version of the Summer comforter, for average to warm sleepers in warm climates.

Summer: The Summer down comforter is designed for Year Around use in the South (with air-conditioned bedrooms) and for those who live in cooler climates but keep a comfortable bedroom.

Autumn: This comforter is for those who want a fluffy and warm down comforter. Perfect for Autumn and Winter use in the cooler areas of the U.S.A. (hint: Select the 750 or 800 fill for a little more warmth. Select the Summer 800 for an "Autumn Light".)

Winter: The Winter down comforter offers a luxurious loft and dependable warmth for those who prefer little or no bedroom heat (below 60°).

Deep Winter: Our fluffiest and warmest goose down comforter. Designed for those that want the ultimate in lightweight warmth in the coldest of climates (below 50°).

We can add more down to your comforter, but we cannot remove it. Because of the high quality of our goose down, many people are surprised at how warm our down comforters are. So if you are concerned about over heating, a good rule of thumb is to select a weight that is one weight lighter than you think will keep you comfortable. If, within 1 year of your purchase, you decide that you would like more down added, we only charge for the actual cost of the down and return shipping.

Construction

Made in the U.S.A. and Europe.

Our down comforters are made at the time of your order and usually ship within 1-3 business days. This means that your new down comforter is always "fresh" and has not been sitting on some dusty shelf for months.

How do we do it? Our down proof fabrics are woven and sewn in Europe, ready to be filled with our premium European White Goose Down using state of the art equipment to make sure that each box is filled precisely (to within a 100th of a gram) with the same amount of down. Your comforter is then finished, quality checked (one last time) and packed for shipment.

All Plumeria Bay® down comforters are made with Baffled Box construction. This style, when done properly, eliminates shifting of down and cold spots, and allows the down to loft to it's fullest. Not all "baffled box" comforters are created equal. Click here to learn more about ours.

Care

Caring for your down comforter

It's easy! Fluff daily, and keep in a duvet cover.

Traditional Luxury™ Down Comforters are machine washable, but should only be washed when necessary. (excessive washing is hard on the down clusters and strips the down of its natural oils).

The bags our down comforters and pillows come in are meant to be used and are perfect for storing your items in!
