Down Bedding & Infants
We strongly recommend that you do not allow your baby to sleep with a down comforter, pillow or featherbed. We do not sell down bedding for use by infants.
If your child is old enough to sleep on their own, in a Twin Size bed, we would be so pleased to provide a cozy comforter for him or her.
An infant cannot roll over easily, or at will. If an infant were to have it's face covered by a down comforter or pillow, or if the comforter or pillow were to break open and leak down, there may be a risk of suffocation.
Down comforters, pillows and featherbeds are warm. Infants do not regulate their internal body heat like an adult, and may become overheated when sleeping on a featherbed or covered with a down comforter. Infant overheating is one suspected cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
An article published in October of 2008 by WebMD suggests that sleeping in a room with a fan lowers a baby's risk of sudden infant death syndrome by over 70 percent.
Other strategies for lowering the risk of SIDS include removing all soft bedding and putting babies on their back. Generally speaking, infants should not sleep on their sides until they are at least 12 months old. More tips to help your baby sleep safely.
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a largely unknown medical disorder that strikes without warning, taking the lives of thousands of apparently healthy infants each year. More information on how to minimize the risk of SIDS.
