Naturally Insulates
Wool has amazing properties, far superior to any man made fiber. Wool serves
as an excellent source of natural insulation. This makes the St. Dormeir
wool featherbed protector perfect for use in all temperature conditions,
cold or warm. Your mattress or featherbed (which may tend to sleep warm) will also sleep
cooler when using this protector.
Because of wool's ability to absorb and wick away excess moisture, wool helps
keep your body at the most comfortable temperature for a restful sleep. In
cooler climates and seasons, wool removes moisture from the skin to help
keep you feeling warm and dry. Likewise, in warmer climates and seasons,
wool's coil-like fibers pull excess heat and moisture away from your skin,
helping you stay cooler.
Naturally Absorbent
Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water without feeling wet. An average person can produce a pint of vapor as perspiration during the night. Wool can trap this moisture, keeping the humidity surrounding you at a comfortable low level.
Naturally Resilient
Each wool fiber contains a spiraling crimp that acts like a tiny spring. These tiny springs bounce back after compression to their original shape. Synthetic fibers just bend. Wool can bend back on itself 20,000 times without breaking; synthetics less than 100 times. This is why your St. Dormeir protector will keep its puffiness and shape many times longer than any polyester pad.
Machine Washable
The special process used to mill St. Dormeir wool makes it completely machine washable and dryable. You get all the wonderful benefits of natural wool with complete ease of care.
Why Not Polyester?
Wool is very difficult to ignite and won't burn when the flame source is removed, unlike polyester which can burn very easily since it is made from petroleum. Although polyester is less expensive, it doesn't breath, doesn't last and packs down quickly. Unlike wool, which is a natural fiber and is quite bio-degradable, polyester uses non renewable resources and when its useful life has ended winds up in landfills practically forever.
St. Dormeir Wool Mattress & Featherbed Protectors Are Machine Washable
Wash in warm (not hot) water, on a gentle cycle. Use a good quality (non-bleach) detergent. Do not use bleach, or a detergent with bleach.
Use the maximum water level. Do not launder with any other items.
Machine dry on gentle, at medium (NOT High) heat. Do not over dry, as this
can make the wool feel brittle. Remove your St. Dormeir protector from the
dryer as soon as it no longer feels damp. Do not iron. Do not dry clean.
The cotton terry cover is a special weave that maximizes absorption. Terry weave will "lint" more than other weaves, so please be aware that after laundering you will find some lint in your dryers lint trap. This is normal.
